FAQs

Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions to help assist you with understanding the treatment of eyelash extensions and what you can expect as a client.

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

I keep my pricing straightforward because I understand that choosing the right lashes can be confusing for clients who aren't experts. That's why I charge the same price for all my sets. For more detailed pricing please visit our prices page here:

Do Eyelash Extensions cause damage?
A well-applied set of eyelash extensions will not cause any damage; in fact, they can be beneficial for your natural lashes. Many of us wear mascara daily, and during removal, we unknowingly cause trauma to our eyes and natural lashes. This daily trauma can lead to thinning lashes. With eyelash extensions, you no longer need to scrub off mascara; instead, you gently wash your lashes, similar to how you wash your hair.
Eyelash extensions can cause damage if applied incorrectly. If the extensions are too long, thick, or heavy, they can cause your natural lashes to thin due to the excess weight. The use of too much adhesive and improper isolation of each lash can result in damage to the natural lashes. Exposure to low-grade products can dry out the natural lashes, and low-grade adhesives can cause respiratory issues and allergic reactions.
At Canterbury Lash Extensions, we create a bespoke, safe set for every client, ensuring no damage to your natural lashes or health.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, here at Canterbury Lash Extensions we require all new clients to be patch tested: no patch test no treatment. We will patch test you at your consultation for every product we use to ensure client safety. Patch tests are to be performed at least 48 hours prior to your treatment. If your patch test shows a reaction, you cannot go ahead with the treatment.

What happens at the consultation?

During a client consultation for eyelash extensions, we discuss your desired look and preferences for length, curl, and thickness. We assess the health and suitability of your natural lashes and conduct a patch test . The application process and aftercare instructions are explained in detail. Together, we'll choose the best style for you, considering your natural lashes and personal preferences. Health and safety considerations, including medical history and potential risks, are reviewed, and a consent form is required. Finally, if not done so already, we'll schedule your appointment for the eyelash extension application.

Are your Eyelash Extensions cruelty-free?
Yes, all our products are cruelty-free.

Do I need to maintain my eyelash extensions?
Yes, maintaining your eyelash extensions is important to keep them looking their best. We will show you how to care for your extensions daily (it's very simple). Maintenance infills are required every 2-3 weeks, as lashes grow and shed daily. After this time, some will have shed, and others will have grown out, so they need removing and replacing to maintain their condition.

What are lash sheds and cycles?
Natural lashes have a shorter growth phase than other body hair, taking 9-12 weeks to complete a full cycle. This quick cycle necessitates infills to maintain the extensions. During spring and summer, humans experience lash sheds, leading to premature lash loss and sparser sets temporarily.

Can I wear mascara and makeup with eyelash extensions?
While you can wear makeup with eyelash extensions, avoid using mascara, as it clumps the extensions together, ruining them. Liquid eyeliners should also be avoided as they can stick to the base of the extensions and promote bacterial growth. At Canterbury Lash Extensions, we ban mascara and eyeliner to maintain the integrity of the extensions.

How do I remove my eyelash extensions?
It’s important to have your eyelash extensions removed by a professional to avoid damaging your natural lashes. The adhesive is very strong, requiring a special remover to break down the bonds. In rare emergencies, use a gentle oil-based remover and consult us for specific instructions.

Do eyelash extensions hurt to have applied?
No, getting eyelash extensions applied should not hurt. The process is painless and relaxing for most clients. You'll lie comfortably with your eyes closed and can take a nap, waking up to beautiful extensions.

Can I get an allergic reaction to eyelash extensions?
While allergic reactions are rare, they can occur. We use high-quality, UK-made adhesives and products to minimise the risk. If you have sensitive skin or eyes, or have had reactions in the past, please inform us before your appointment. In the event of any allergic reaction we will assist you.

Can I wear eyelash extensions when pregnant?
At Canterbury Lash Extensions, we choose not to lash pregnant clients due to potential health risks. Pregnancy can increase susceptibility to reactions, and certain medications for reactions may not be safe during pregnancy. Additionally, lying in one position for too long can restrict blood flow to the foetus.

Am I too old for eyelash extensions?
Absolutely not! Eyelash extensions are suitable for all ages. We specialise in mature clients, providing natural enhancements or glamorous looks tailored to your preferences.

What age do I need to be to have eyelash extensions?
Here at Canterbury Lash Extensions we offer eyelash extensions to clients aged 18 and above.

How long do eyelash extensions last?
With proper care, eyelash extensions can last up to 8 weeks. However, for a full and fresh look, maintenance is required every 2-3 weeks. Like nails, lashes grow and shed, necessitating regular upkeep.

Can I swim or shower with eyelash extensions?
Yes, you can swim and shower with eyelash extensions. However, avoid getting them wet within the first 24- hours after application to allow the adhesive to fully cure. After this period, they are water-resistant. We will provide aftercare instructions to ensure your lashes remain in perfect condition.

How should I clean my eyelash extensions?
Cleaning your eyelash extensions is essential to prevent build-up of makeu, skin debris and maintain lash health. Use a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser and a soft brush/flocked applicator to clean your lashes daily. Avoid rubbing or tugging at your lashes. We will teach you how to clean your extensions.

How do I choose the right style of eyelash extensions?
We will help you choose the perfect style based on your eye shape, natural lashes, and desired look. During your consultation, we’ll discuss all the options to create a look that enhances your natural beauty.

How long does the eyelash extension application take?
The application process typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the desired look and type of lashes. During this time, you can relax and enjoy a lash nap.

What should I do before my eyelash extension appointment?
Before your appointment, ensure your natural lashes and eye area are clean and free of makeup, oils, and lotions. Avoid using waterproof mascara or oil-based products for at least 24 hours before your appointment. We provide detailed pre-appointment instructions to help you prepare.

Can I apply semi permanent individual eyelash extensions myself?
No, the client must be lying flat with their eyes closed, with each natural lash isolated using super sharp tweezers. Eyelash extension application should only be undertaken by a trained professional to avoid potential risks.

Can diet, products used, medications, the menopause etc caused retention problems?

Yes, there are many factors which can cause clients to lose lashes very quickly. Although most clients find that their extensions last well, some select clients find that they suffer with retention. Clients who are very oily, use certain intense products, silicon based hair products, take lots of suppliments/medication, going through the menopause or HRT may experience premature loss of the lashes.

Here at Canterbury Lash Extensions, our products have been tried and tested over the past 10 years, this means we know that they work. So when a client experiences retention issues it is usually something going on with the client and in some rare cases a clients might not be a suitable candidate.
